‘Asandhimitta’ to visit cinemas soon

Renowned filmmaker Asoka Handagama’s 10th film direction ‘Asandhimitta’ Based on a Novella by Saman Wickramaarachchi, is to be released soon in theatres.

Produced by H D Premasiri, the film stars Nilmini Sigera, Dharmapriya Dias, W Jayasiri, Shyam Fernando, Yashoda Wimaladharma, Rukmal Nirosh, Anula Bulathsinhala, Gayani Gisanthika, Sandali Handagama and Pradeep Ramavikrama in the main cast.

A renowned filmmaker receives a mysterious call from an old college mate in the middle of the night. Asandhimitta, whom he recalls as a large and voluptuous woman, asks him to make a film based on her life. She then confesses that she was recently involved in a triple homicide of three women and is taken into custody shortly afterwards. Intrigued, the filmmaker attempts to piece together her fragmented story for a film while Asandhimitta herself awaits her fate in a local prison.

‘Asandhimitta’ had its world premiere at the 2018 Busan International Film Festival and it had its European Premiere at the Black Nights Film Festival (In Competition ) in November 2018.

In his director’s intent, Handagama, referring to the film explained the fictional aspect of reality.

Philosophical approach of the narrative of this film is entirely psychoanalytical. In the guise of a fiction the truth about the characters is articulated. The ultimate objective of the film is not to achieve recreation of reality within the narrative fiction but to observe the reality as a fiction.

The film, from beginning to the end, continues to depict that real life can only be portrayed as fiction. It makes us to distinguish, that contemporary social reality is much more humorous.

The film crew includes Channa Deshapriya as the cinematography, Ravindra Guruge as the editor, Upul Chamila Bandara as the art director and Kapila Poogalaarchchi as the editor.

Sound designer of ‘Asandhimitta’ is Nisal Gangodage, recording is handled by Lal Dissanayake and colorist is Dinindu Jagoda. Co- produced by Kumuduni Dias Haputhanthri, Chandu Haputhanthri and Chandri Haputhanthri, production manager of the film is Manjula Perera.
