Gateway College Alumni launch Australia Chapter
View(s):The Australia Chapter of the Gateway College Alumni was successfully launched on the 1st of March in Melbourne. The first overseas chapter to be installed by any international school in Sri Lanka was attended by over a hundred that also included a few past teachers too. Mrs. Rohini Alles, Managing Director of the Gateway Group graced the occasion as Chief Guest and she was accompanied by Chairman, Dr. Harsha Alles and Director Mrs. Dinali Alles.
The objective of the alumni is to continue to foster the camaraderie students have built while at school; and enable them with a support network while they are based in Australia. A number of initiatives have been planned for the year including a mentoring programme to support Gateway alumni who are new to Australia and looking to further their academic and professional careers; as well as a number of social activities to get the wider Gateway network and families together on a bi-annual basis.
The Australia Chapter consists of a number of diversely talented individuals. They include, current and former employees of Google; Facebook and Microsoft, PhD holders in Engineering, Astrophysics and Economics; founders of recognised Fin Tec start-ups and Financial Services firms; Engineers working on significant Australian public infrastructure projects; a VFX specialist who has worked on a number of blockbuster DC comic movies; Academics in Architecture and Health Services; as well as research workers of a number of leading Australian universities. A few alumni also have successful passion projects aside from their fulltime work including event planning companies and dance schools.
The launch event, which included speeches and dances, was a fun filled event which brought back many memories of schooldays in a true celebration of Founder Mr. R.I.T. Alles’ Gateway family. The event signified an important milestone for a young school that is still in its 22nd year.
