Ilma IGS to host Under-14 TISSL International Schools Netball Tournament
View(s):The Inter-International School Under-14 Netball Tournament, hosted by Ilma International Girls’ School (IIGS) will be held on March 19, at the Sugathadasa Indoor Stadium. The event is open to all the schools that come under the TISSL (The International Schools of Sri Lanka) umbrella and the 2019 edition will witness the participation of thirteen such institutions. This is the first time Ilma International Girls School will be hosting the Under-14 tournament even though they have been the hosts for the Under-20 tournament for the past nine years.
The schools nationwide that will compete at the event will include OKI International School, Colombo International School Colombo, Regent International School, Gateway College Colombo, Gateway College Kandy, Lyceum International School Panadura, Lyceum International School Wattala, Lyceum International School Ratnapura, Lyceum International School Nugegoda, British School Colombo, Royal Institute, St. Nicholas International School and the host school, Ilma International Girls’ School. Lyceum International School Wattala will defend their title that they won last year after thrilling win against Gateway College Colombo. The draw for the tournament took place at the Ilma auditorium with the participation of sports officials of the respective participating schools.
Undoubtedly, the event will be an opportunity for the young players of all schools to showcase their athletic prowess and skillset, whilst vying for the ultimate netball championship title. However, as the host school, Ilma is very keen that it should be done in a manner which inculcates the value of sportsmanship and in a spirit of camaraderie. In an arena which could witness the fiercest of competition, it is still imperative that the players treat one another with respect, managing the emotions that come with the highs and lows of the game
