Preparations are underway to have the 19th Presidential Awards ceremony with great pomp on July 26 this year. The last Presidential Awards ceremony was held in 2017, where awards for the films screened during the year 2015 were presented.

Awards will be given away for films that were screened during the years 2016, 2017 and 2018, and a number cinema artistes who rendered yeoman service to country’s film industry will be recognised.

On the advice of Cultural, Housing and Construction Minister Sajith Premadasa and the direction of National Film Corporation Chairman Anusha Gokula, the awards ceremony will be held at the Nelum Pokuna Theatre and President Maithripala Sirisena will be the chief guest.
