Peterites create history in Hockey
View(s):The Under-20 Hockey team of St. Peter’s College, Colombo, playing against Zahira College, Matale in the finals of the All Island Under-20 Inter-School Hockey Tournament held in Mihinthale, drew 0-0 to emerge, for the first time in the Peterite history, as Joint Champions of the Tournament. The Peterites were unbeaten in the tournament.
The Peterites on their road to glory beat Christ Church College, Matale 2-0, in the quarter-finals they beat Trinity College, Kandy 1-0 and in the pre-quarter-finals they beat Sirimavo Model School, Matale 2-1.
In the Group stages, the Peterites, in the first match beat Vijaya College, Matale 2-0, before beating St. Sylvester’s College, Kandy 1-0 in the second match . They overcame Aloysius’ College, Galle easily by 1-0 in their third game.
Rev. Fr. Trevor Martin, the Rector of St. Peter’s College, Colombo expressed his sincere gratitude to Rev. Fr. Thilina Pathum, the Sports Coordinator, Sanath Chinthaka, the Sports Secretary, Sriya Jayamanne, the Teacher-in-Charge, Head Coach Indika Hewawasam, Assistant Coach Irshad Mohamed, the Old Peterite Hockey Coordinators — Ravika de Silva, Shammika Meegapola and Dinesh Pusegoda and the parents for contributing immensely for the glorious success of Peterite Hockey.
