The Ralphs: Another Benchmark in D. S. Senanayake College Big Match history
View(s):The annual cricket encounter between two schools is an event that school goers, present and old, all look forward to towards the month of March. More commonly known as the “Big Match”, it is an event that reunites the brotherhood of any school year after year to celebrate the sport as well as its comradery among the two schools. The D. S. Senanayake College big match does not boast of an illustrious history as some other schools, however it does not disappoint when it comes to its magnitude. Inside the venue itself, the event has a number of tents that is representative of the brotherhood that the D. S. Boys, also known as Dons are quite proud of.
The main tent at the Dons big match is “The Ralphs” tent. The name itself derives from our beloved founding principal late Mr. Ralph Ignatious Thomas Alles. For the 5th consecutive time, The Ralphs tent for the year of 2019 will be proudly organized by the 2012 batch in partnership with the OBA.
At the inception of the big match for DS, it wasn’t as large scale as you would see it today, however the Dons are a bunch of people who are trend setters in their own right. Therefore as the years went by, batch by batch took charge over the Ralphs tent and ensured that the prestige of the Ralphs tent remained year after year. The Ralph tent which will be open to all the batches from DS will allow present and past pupils all to cheer our brothers as one voice. Not only that, the most awaited event in the DS calendar, the PSYCHO PARADE will happen in the morning of the big match that will continue to the venue where the after party- PSYCHIC will take place even after the conclusion of the match allowing us to continue the fun and frolic later after the match. With that in mind, the 2012 batch together with the OBA will take charge of these events this year. We believe that this will be a rise for a new tradition for us Dons that will be able to house a larger number of people throughout the match proceedings.
The ticket launch for the Big Match took place on the 12th of March at the D. S. Senanayake College OBA Auditorium with the presence of one of our very own cricket legends, Mr. Aravinda De Silva who was the chief guest for this event.
With hope for a new tradition to begin, we wish the brothers from both schools who will be competing for the trophy this year from the 29th to the 30th of March 2019 at the P. Sara Oval Stadium.
