The demand for the field of Accounting discipline is progressively increasing in an exponential way. This development create lucrative vivid employment opportunities in Accounting and Finance fields in Sri Lanka as well as various other countries. At present, there are few government universities and Alternative Higher Educational Institutions as well as professional Accounting bodies, that provide academic and professional qualifications in Accounting. The Department of Accountancy (DoA), University of Kelaniya has been offering Master of Business in Accounting/Finance online degree since 2013. As the pioneer of introducing flexible mode of pedagogical approach to deliver MBus in (Accounting/Finance), DoA has taken steps to tie-up with one of renowned Australian universities to offer Master of Professional Accounting (MPA) Degree.

In this context, DoA of University of Kelaniya signed an agreement with CQUniversity, Australia. This paradigm change can create opportunities for Sri Lankan students who are seeking to complete a professional master’s degree in accounting overseas while staying in Sri Lanka. Further, this initiative provides value for money to candidates by giving them an opportunity to complete Master of Business in (Accounting/Finance) and Master of Professional Accounting, two degrees in one registration. These two degrees can be completed within the short time span of 16 months with world recognised credit value.

Prof. Ariyarathna Jayamaha, Dean of the Faculty of Graduate Studies, University of Kelaniya stated that students have an opportunity to complete an Australian Master’s Degree on an online delivery platform. This flexible mode of learning provides opportunities to access leaning materials, web cast lecture sessions, online assignment submission, access to online blackboard, e-library facilities and more. In addition, students will have one to one assistance locally to ease the process of completing two masters degrees in stipulated time frame.
