Mahinda win low scoring game after nine years
Mahinda College made amends for losing the big match last weekend by registering a 3-wicket win in the limited over version to claim the RCU Colombo Centenary Challenge Trophy yesterday. It was after nine years that the Mahindians were able to breach Richmond’s dominance of the limited over version. Richmond still lead the series 20 wins to Mahinda’s nine.
Electing to bat first Richmond were unable to post a large score and were six down for 92 but were able to reach a more respectable 170 through an unbeaten 78 run partnership by Vimud Sapnaka (35) and Dimuth Sandaruwan (45). Of the seven bowlers Kushan Madushan was the only one to take two wickets.
The first three Mahinda batsmen scored 35 runs each and Nipun Malinga chipped in with 21 to see 155 runs on the board for the loss of four wickets. The Richmond bowlers did well to capture another three wickets before Mahindians scored the winning runs Dilum Sudeera captured three wickets
