Promoted as SP
View(s):D.D.S. Sooriyaarachchi, who functioned as ASP Ampara has been promoted to the rank of Superintendent of Police by the National Police Commission.
SP Sooriyaarachchi who joined the Police Department in 1984 as a sub inspector was promoted to the rank of inspector in 1993, chief inspector in 2003 and ASP in 2010.
He completed the United States Justice Department’s fourfold courses — Instructor Development, Community Policing, Human Dignity and Ethics and Mid Level Management training. He also followed international courses on ‘Child Rights protection’ conducted by UNICEF; Use of Force by Law Enforcement Officers’ conducted by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) and ‘Prosecutions & Practical Application of Law’ by International Organisation of Migration (IOM).
The Scottish Qualification Authority recognised his academic excellence by presenting him the international Vocational Award in Community policing.
At present, he is the Senior Gazetted officer in charge of training, administration and discipline of Police at the In-service Training Institute of the Eastern Region – Ampara. He was once a chief lecturer at the institute.
During his 34 years of service he was honoured with Sri Lanka Police Meritorious Service medal, Poornabhumi medal and the Sri Lanka Police Long service and Good conduct medal.
SP Sooriyaarachchi extensively served in the North and East Operational areas.
