Study Hospitality Management with Scholarships! and work in Switzerland

Switzerland is home to one of Europe’s most prestigious higher education systems and is a country rich in diversity with breathtaking scenic routes. It is one of the most beautiful countries and an ideal country for a student to pursue higher education.
Ms. Hema Doraisamy, the Academic Director of ‘My Global World’ joined with us to talk more about the student life in Switzerland as well as to talk about the opportunities available for students to enjoy the experience in Switzerland.
Why do you think students prefer Switzerland for their higher studies, mainly concerning education in the hospitality sector?
Well, Switzerland is world famous for hospitality management programmes. So if you have got a Swiss degree, in the hospitality field, you would definitely be recognized around the world. Having a Swiss degree from the hospitality field makes you stand out in that field which ultimately opens doors for more employment opportunities.
And also, when you look at the country, Switzerland, it is a destination where people from all around the world go for holiday. It is a beautiful country with scenic views which attracts tourists and is also famous for watches and chocolates. Further, it is also famous for sports like skiing. So why not go to a country where you can get a well-recognized degree while at the same time enjoy your stay over there and even travel around.
Could you share with us about this prestigious educational institute that offers degree programmes in the hospitality field?
We are known as the ‘International Business Academy of Switzerland’ and we are based in Zurich. We are a city hospitality institute compared to other hospitality institute which are located in the mountains. International Business Academy of Switzerland stands amidst in the city and is about a 30 minutes ride from the airport by train. The school also has a villa in Zurich which is used as students’ accommodation.

There are hospitality as well as business programmes in this institute. We offer undergraduate and postgraduate programmes, from Bachelors to Masters and Doctorate.
The school is already a home for a few Sri Lankan students and this year there will be scholarships offered to students from this region.
What are these scholarships? Tell us more about them.
We are currently offering scholarships to Sri Lankan students since we are new to this country. The scholarships are up to a maximum of 30% for the students who apply. It will be granted based on their Advanced Level results and IELTS results. We require a minimum of 5.5 IELTS for our Bachelor programmes and 6.0 IELTS for Masters Programme. If students have got this requirement they will be considered for the scholarship. Students from any subject stream can apply for the programmes provided they have an interest to study hospitality or business.
What are the special features of the programmes offered by International Business Academy of Switzerland?
One attractive feature about our programmes is the fact that our hospitality programmes includes a six months internship in every year of study. So in a three year undergraduate Programme for Bachelors, they get a six months studies and six months internship period. These internships could be anywhere around the world. We do placements guidance for the students to go for the internships. Students get an opportunity to travel and learn through their internship.
The other special feature is, there are no examinations to put the students in stressful condition. All our programmes are done based on assignments and presentations where they will be evaluated. The classes will be done on a modular basis where one module will be finished in one month. So in a month, the students will have intense study for two weeks and one week of assignments and one week of presentations.
Further, we ensure that students get a practical approach on the subjects and relevant fields where we make sure that the studies are not just limited to theory and notes.
We also consider ourselves as an e-learning institute. We take use of the technology where some classes would be conducted outside the campus and we also use Facebook as a means of teaching which has attracted many of our current students.
We invite executives and managers from the relevant fields to conduct some classes and to share their experiences to give students better exposure on the subjects and the fields that they are going to be employed in.

What are the degrees offered by International Business Academy of Switzerland?
We have the undergraduate Programme for Business which is known as the Bachelors in Business Administration and it is with specializations where students can choose to specialize in areas like finance, international and marketing.
The Bachelor in Hospitality Management is another Programme offered and it is a very popular Programme of ours in Sri Lanka.
MBA programmes are also offered as one year Programme and also as two year Programme where students can specialize in any field they prefer like hospitality, finance or marketing.
So how can students from Sri Lanka apply for International Business Academy of Switzerland and obtain this scholarship?
Students may reach through BCAS where the applicants will be assisted with the necessary steps. All the ground work would be carried out by the BCAS Team and they would be supporting the students with the whole procedure including the Visa application.
