Leisure
Leisure is an important need in our lives. It can be expressed as taking a little rest or relaxing after a hard day’s work. Modern city life is like a contest with so much rush and stress. Everybody is overworked. Nobody has time to enjoy the natural environment and give a rest to the mind and body.
As a result many are suffering from various physical and mental disorders. So it is important to spend some time leisurely. Leisure doesn’t mean spending time for senseless work, such as smoking, gambling, gossiping and consuming liquor or being drunk.
That is an abuse of leisure.
Leisure can restore our energy, comfort us and make us strong to work again. Going on picnics, taking walks, reading useful books are good leisure time activities. If we waste our time we will also overtax our minds and bodies. By spending sometime leisurely will prolong our lives and we will also be comfortable.

My pet puppy
We have a pet puppy at home. It is black in colour. It has two hanging ears and a wagging tail. Father brought it to our house. Now it is two months old.
We feed it with milk, rice and fish.
It loves to play and run. It chases us.
I love my puppy very much.

My garden
My garden is very big and very beautiful. There are many trees, many flowers etc. I water the plants every day. Every day I clean my garden. Many animals and birds come to my garden and eat fruits and vegetables. So I put a fence. Every month I plant new plants; for example, coconut tree, mango tree etc. This is my hobby. Sometimes I read books in my garden. Every month, I pluck the fruits and vegetables.
I am very happy to do gardening.

An unforgettable trip
Last month I went on a trip to Kandy with my friends. We went to Kandy by train. We went to the Peradeniya Botanical Garden and the Temple of the Tooth. We got a chance to worship the Tooth Relic. It was very beautiful. We played happily. We had lunch in a hotel. The food was very tasty. We returned home by train.
It was an unforgettable day in my life.

A day I will never forget
The day I will never forget is when I was first in class.
That day, I was very happy. At the parents meeting my teacher told my parents that I was very good. My parents were also so happy.
My mother and father both gave me a present. At the annual prize-giving
I got a certificate because I was first in the class. I was so happy.
I will never forget that day.

The teacher I like most
A good teacher gets a humble pleasure. She always pays attention to inculcate good habits in the minds of children.
The teacher I like the most is Ms. Milani De Alwis. She is fair and a little bit fat. She lives in Maharagama. She always teaches with a smiling face. She makes us very happy throughout the lesson. She teaches us English and is always well prepared for her lessons.
My teacher is very kind and punctual. Sometimes she is very strict. She has a good knowledge of many things. She always comes to class at the correct time. My teacher advises us very often and corrects us when we go wrong. She is willing to see our progress in every way. She is a qualified, experienced and talented teacher. She has a pure and kind heart. Even if she is not well she never misses to attend to the class.
I love my teacher very much.

Migratory birds
Many birds do not stay in the same country all year round. They fly long distances over land and water to warmer climates during winter. This is called Migration.
Migratory birds have a very good sense of direction and return to exactly the same place – perhaps even to the same nest –
every year, such as Arctic Tern, Swallows and Yellow birds.
Nobody really knows how they find their way on these long journeys. Migrating birds may fly enormous distances, sometimes more than 10,000 km. Each year the Arctic Tern flies from the Arctic region right down to the Antarctic and back again, 35,000 km.
