Asoka beat President Kotte by 5 wickets
Asoka Vidyalaya recorded a comfortable 5-wicket victory against traditional rivals, Presidents College Kotte in the 13th Battle of Golds Limited Overs Big Match played at the R. Premadasa Stadium in Colombo yesterday.
The match turned out to be a low-scoring affair after Presidents elected to bat first and were skittled out for 85 runs just after the halfway mark of their innings. Asoka bowlers Vihanga Shamika and Rahul Chandrasekara were wreckers of Presidents batting lineup, they shared nine wickets between them. Shamika picked a five-for and Chandrasekara claimed four wickets, while Thigian Thewmika stood tall among the Presidents batsmen to top score with a patient knock of 22.
Despite chasing a simple target, Asoka too had to go through some uncertain moments. They lost five wickets before Anuk Pasandula batted patiently to hit 23 not out and see his team through.
