Over Rs 3b for new buildings at Kelaniya, Eastern Universities
View(s):The Cabinet this week approved the construction of a building each for the University of (UoK) and Eastern University (EU) costing more than Rs 3 billion.
The approved constructions are a 4-storey building for the Postgraduate Institute of Pali & Buddhist Studies for the UoK, at a cost of Rs 393 million, to be awarded to Sathuta Builders (Pvt.) Ltd, and a building complex for a Faculty of Healthcare for the EU, at a cost Rs 2,887.95 million (without tax), to be awarded to International Constructions Consortium Pvt.Ltd., which were presented by Minister of City Planning, Water Supply & Higher Education, Rauff Hakeem.
The Cabinet also approved a proposal presented by President Maithripala Sirisena to sign a Memorandum of Understanding with Shandong Foreign Trade Vocational College, China, on conducting short term foreign training programmes on a concessionary basis, for select groups of students from the National Institute of Labour Studies.
