The head of Sri Lanka’s National Economic Council (NEC), the apex body responsible for economic development, will receive a monthly salary and allowance of half a million rupees.

Presidential Secretary Udaya R Seneviratne has written to NEC Secretary General Lalith Samarakoon that in addition, he will be provided with an official vehicle, a driver, and a monthly fuel quota of 200 litres.

The Presidential Secretary has also informed Prof. Samarakoon that he will also be provided with other facilities after consideration of his rank, qualifications, experience and the responsibilities involved.

The new salary structure and allowances were an increase from his previous entitlements, according to his appointment letter issued in January last year.
