This June, Roald Dahl’s Matilda, the multi-award-winning musical will be staged in Colombo presented by Cinnamon Life. Matilda the Musical promises an unforgettable evening of theatre for the whole family.
Bursting with unforgettable characters, thrilling plot twists, fun and surprises, this beloved story by world-renowned author Roald Dahl, has charmed audiences across the world, with a cast of wildly talented kids and a captivating script by writer Dennis Kelly, brought to life by the witty lyrics from Tim Minchin.
A production that is in a league of its own, Matilda the Musical is yet another hit by the Royal Shakespeare Company – a major British theatre company, based in Stratford-upon-Avon, England – the home of William Shakespeare himself. The company regularly tours the UK and the world with plays and musicals that feature a crew of international cast members, choreographers, production specialists and producers, who take the West-End’s finest performances to audiences in all corners of the globe.
Matilda the Musical has made it into the Guinness Book of Records winning a total of seven awards at the prestigious Laurence Olivier Awards show. Other awards include five Tony Awards, 13 Helpmann Awards including ‘Best Musical’ ‘Best Choreography in a Musical’ and ‘Best Original Score’, among a series of award wins to achieve a grand total of 90 international awards, of which 23 have been for Best Musical at several of the world’s top theatre award shows.
Brought to Colombo by Cinnamon Life in collaboration with the Royal Shakespeare Company and GWB Entertainment, Matilda the Musical is a feel-good, upbeat and exhilarating show that explores themes of friendship, will power, family and determination. Telling the powerful tale of Matilda’s quest to fight the oppressive forces, stand up for oneself and rewrite destiny once and for all, the musical has a wonderful storyline that will resonate with audiences of all ages.
