Diyathalawa ready to witness Sri Lanka’s premier motor racing event
The Fox Hill Super Cross –an ever popular and prestigious motor racing event in the country will rev off in Diyathalawa on April 21. Famous for its challenging nature of the track–winning the Fox Hill Super Cross is any competitor’s dream.
It was first held on October 3, 1993. This will be the 27th edition of the famous competition that will see country’s top drivers and riders competing for the coveted title. The event is being organised by the Sri Lanka Military Academy annually to raise funds to maintain the infrastructure and training facilities of the institute. The chairman of the organising committee brigadier S.K. Eshwaran is grateful for the valued sponsors who joined hands with Sri Lanka Military Academy for the event.
This time there will be over 300 drivers and riders for the event. There is a very strong competition for defending champions Ishan Dasanayake in Motorcycles and Ashan Silva in Motorcars. It will make this competition more competitive and exciting for the fans.
This year there are 27 events instead of 24 last year and an increased prize money. In addition there will be more prizes for the winners from the sponsors.
The championship races are grouped as Group SL-GT up to 3500cc and Group SL-H up to 1600cc in the Motorcar category and Group MX-Racing Motorcross bikes up to 125cc 2 Stroke, up to 250cc 4stroke Group MX-Racing Motorcross up to 85cc (Under-16 years as at December 31, 2018) in the Motorcycle category.
Truck and Jeep Diesel up to 5500cc and Super Motared Open including 250cc up to 1100cc (2 stroke and 4 stroke) and cars up to 1500cc in the special motor category are among the other popular races that are expected to add to the thrills and the excitement of the competition.
Diyathalawa is one of the places that have its richness with natural beauty and a peaceful surrounding. Hence it would be the time after the Sinhala and Tamil New Year and the atmosphere will be great for motor racing.
The track is one of the best racing tracks in Asia and it is suitable for international events as well. The organisers urged the media to help them in promoting the track globally.
