Inaugural Cyber Games for Sri Lankan women

Gamer.LK has announced the first ever Women’s Cyber Games Esports tournament dedicated to female Esports athletes in Sri Lanka. The event is sponsored by Sri Lanka Telecom who joins as the title partner of the event to empower female athletes in what is the fastest growing sport in Sri Lanka.
An increasing number of female gamers have taken to Esports, and the Women’s Cyber Games is organised with the intention of giving them a dedicated platform to showcase their skills. 2015 marked the year that Gamer.LK first started women’s brackets at Sri Lanka’s largest Esports event – the Sri Lanka Cyber Games. Since then, female participation has grown to over 160 athletes in 2018.
Gamer.LK’s efforts to have equal gender representation in Esports doesn’t end at the tournament – the company has female representation at the highest levels of leadership with Dhara Wijayatilake taking a board seat at the company. Dhara currently also holds the position of CEO, Ceylon Chamber of Commerce.
Ornella Gunesekera has come onboard as the Women’s Esports Ambassador for Sri Lanka. As ambassador, she will be promoting Esports as a sport for women and helping Gamer.LK shape perceptions about Esports. Ornella is Miss Universe Sri Lanka 2018, and is a gamer herself.
The event features a Rs. 100,000 prize pool which will be distributed amongst the top 8 Esports athletes from the event. The event will be held on the 20th and 21st April at the Colombo City Centre.
