ANC celebrates the Sinhala Aluth Avurudu & Tamil Puthandu Festival 2019
View(s):The Avurudu Ulela 2019 organised by ANC Rotaract club students and SAO created a delightful festive mood as the entire student body and staff shared the joy of Avurudu on April 6th 2019 to celebrate the Sinhala & Tamil New year 2019.
The traditional Avurudu games captivated the students who took home a memorable experience as they indulged in over 20 different Avurudu games including kotta pora, kanna mutti, goni race, kiri kaweema, banis kaema, thun paa dhivima and the crowning of Avrudu Kumari & Kumaraya. Freshman students participated for the first time and Avinash Fernando who recently joined ANC had this to share ‘I had a great experience at the team games where we got to meet different students, bond with them and make new friends”.
The camaraderie and friendly competition in true Avurudu festive style made it a significant day for the students. It was not only about the colourful games, rituals and delicious sweets but also about supporting each other, working as a team and respecting differences to pull off an event of this magnitude. The students of the Rotaract Club spearheaded the entire event and their club president Chamathka Kariyawasam had this say ‘It was a serendipity moment where we all experienced firsthand that teamwork truly makes the dream work at the Avurudu Ulela 2019’.
