A trip to Badulla
A trip to Badulla by train is one perfect way to spend an exciting and beautiful holiday.
We went on such a journey on February 2, 2018 with some of our friends. It was an early start; Five in the morning. It did, however, reward us with some spectacular views on our way in the train. We stopped at certain stations and that was the perfect time for us to come out of the train and see everything around us. It did take quite a long time to reach our destination, and we rested, so that we could start fresh the next day.
The next day, we first headed to the Dowa temple, a temple with some historic significance. After spending some time there, we headed towards the Adisham Bungalow. It was quite a bumpy path, but it was enjoyable.
The gardens of the bungalow were in full bloom, so it added more beauty to the surrounding area. The inner architecture was luxurious, though we were not allowed to touch it. The cool breeze was also very refreshing.
Next, we went to see Diyaluma Falls. We remained on the bridge, which indeed felt safe. But that did not stop a few people from going near the crashing waterfall! We then visited a bridge, ‘Bogoda Paalama,’ which was completely made of wood. And that concluded our second day.
The third day, we started with a walk to the Diyaluma Falls. It was really tiring; walking about two kilometres to reach the bridge top from where you look at the waterfall. Later, we enjoyed the whole evening, bathing
in a small natural pool in Badulu Oya, which was, indeed, the most relaxing time of the whole trip.
We then went to worship at the Muthiyangana Viharaya, a sacred place where Lord Buddha once visited. The rest of the day, my friends and I had a wonderful time playing some of our favourite games.
Thus, we concluded our third day.
We sadly bid our goodbyes on the fourth and final day of our journey. The train journey back home had majestic views just as the first,
but this time, with much more sadness in leaving the place where we had so much fun and laughter.
It was a really stunning journey.
