Terrorists destroyed my happy family, says Sanjaya
“We were a happy family. I was in Italy and I used to speak to my wife and my children two to three times every day. We built our lives around each other. Now some terrorist criminals have snatched our happiness away from us. I do not wish that such a sadness should ever be felt by anyone.”
This was the reaction of Ranil Sanjaya who lost both his children and his wife in the Katuwapitiya explosion.
Sanjaya, was in Italy when a series of explosions rocked Sri Lanka, targeting churches and hotels.
“I got a message saying that bombs had gone off in Sri Lanka. I didn’t think that my daughters and wife had gone to the service in Katuwapitiya. Now my two small angels and my beloved wife have left me alone on this Earth,” Ranil Sanjaya said.
Sanjaya lost wife Priyadharshani Fernandopulle (40), and daughters Raveena Elisa Fernando (14) and Marianne Sanjana Fernando (11) in the blast that left many families in Sri Lanka lost and broken.
Sanjaya had rented a house in Katuwapitiya as it was close to his daughters’ school. “Now, I think that convenience has turned into an immense sadness for me.”
He stated that his wife and children usually go to a small church at Sellakanda. They had chosen to go to the Katuwapitiya Church as it was Easter Sunday.
