Let’s rise again by spreading love

21.04.19, a date none of us, individuals would ever forget.

Some of us have moved on, yet most grieving the loss of a part of our humanity.

Work places opened, schools began, businesses commenced.

People seem to have gotten back to their usual routines, but this time unlike others, it’s different. Wherever you are, there is talk, there is worry. The air isn’t the same as it used to be, the smiles we give and receive aren’t as pleasant as they used to be. As much as I hate to say, people aren’t the same anymore, they’re more vigilant of the different races around them.

What has our dear Sri Lanka come to? How do we rise again, as one?

To our little island and fellow Lankans who lost those dearest to them,

You’re hurting, and we’re all hurting with you. But, we will not let this weakness get the best of us,

We will stand up again, however long it take, we will rise as one and learn to trust one another again.

To those we loved and lost,

We are sorry you had to leave us that way. You are in a heaven now and that’s for sure.

You died a quick death, but us, our souls, minds and hearts have lost their connection, our emotions got the best of us. However, we will not let that break us apart.

We will live and love one another, for you and for the generations to come.

To my fellow students,

School was and always will be our second home. We are one family.

This tragedy didn’t only affect those at the churches and hotels, it affected each and every single one of us, in the many ways it could. It created discomfort within ourselves, it distanced us from our friends. We lost trust in one another.  We aren’t as close as we used to be. Tension fills the air just as much as oxygen does.

Our Muslim sisters and brothers feel guilty for actions they didn’t do, they don’t show it, but deep down, their hearts tell them they are responsible for everything that happened.  Yes, they represent their society, and yes the terrorists are said to be so-called Muslims, but we’re all different. Judging someone based on what race they belong to, which religion they practise, is natural under this circumstance but that shouldn’t let us destroy what’s left of us. Being looked thoroughly at, by a whole community, for something that they didn’t do strikes them really hard. They are in pain too.

So we start over, but by being cautious at all times too.

We start by spreading love to one another, by lending a hand to those in need of help, by surviving, at the very least, together.

To parliamentarians,

Let now be the time to realize your mistakes, accept and correct them for it always is for the better. You weren’t strong enough to protect our fellow human beings and that disappoints us like it always does.

It’s pathetic to see you compete for votes when the whole country is mourning, but we’re not surprised.

That’s who you’ve become, money greedy and power hungry. You have every reason to resign and yet it’s a shame that you can’t stand for up yourselves at the very least and do so.

Let the youth in, and they will bring back a better Sri Lanka.

To the policemen and the tri forces,

Thank you. We are truly grateful for all that you’ve done. At the end of the day, you are the true heroes of this country.

And finally,

To the terrorists,

It’s sad to see you kill a whole community, destroy a society and inflict hatred and racism upon the hearts of the people we love.

You will never get what you want. We will never let you have it your way.

…..

To more great leaders like the Cardinal, Malcolm Ranjit,

To hope, love, peace, happiness and survival!

May we bring back the hearty laughter and joyous smiles of our dearest motherland, Sri Lanka.

Whatever it takes.
