Randeepa Agrarian (Pvt) Ltd, a young company based in Polonnaruwa, has been recognised as a member of the Great Place to Work community for the year 2019 /2020.

“This no doubt is a significant milestone in the company’s brief journey in the corporate sector given the fact that it is just five years old. Since venturing into the business of marketing agricultural machinery and implements to the local agricultural community, the company has successfully built a close-knit stakeholder community comprising employees, customers, dealers, industry officials and service providers,” the company said in a media release.

“The company’s passion to promote Sri Lankan industry and entrepreneurship is amply reflected in this prestigious nomination into the list of ‘Great Place to Work’. This indeed is a creditable feat, achieved collectively by its management and staff – a vast majority of whom hail from Polonnaruwa, an agricultural city located in the North Central Province. This rare honour is a testament to the superior talents, skills and attitudes possessed by the rural Sri Lankan youth despite having limited opportunities and lower exposure to modern corporate management techniques,” it said.

The company is currently in the process of introducing modern mechanisation methods to the farmer community with a view to further enhancing their harvest. It is envisaged that these mechanisation efforts would boost socio-economic growth among the agricultural community, thereby enhancing their quality of life. A case in point is the plan by the company to introduce a ‘Seed Paddy Sowing Machine’ for the paddy cultivation sector which could effectively replace the time consuming and cumbersome manual process of sowing paddy whilst also saving as much as 22 per cent of seed paddy. It is estimated that this new technology could save as much as Rs. 2,500 per hectare at current market prices in addition to savings made on cost of labour. The company is known for its two-wheel tractors, Combined Harvesters and Cultivators.

Commenting on this accolade, Managing Director of Randeepa Agrarian (Pvt) Ltd Dimuthu Chandike stated: “Our uniqueness is our ability to bring global technology to the local farmers with the necessary customisation to suit the requirements and conditions of the local agricultural community. We simply do not market globally manufactured mass products to the local farmer. Instead, we customise each product to fit the needs of the Sri Lankan farmer and our terrain. In certain cases, we obtain support from our foreign principals to effect necessary improvements at their overseas plants itself.”

The Sri Lanka BIZ+ programme, funded by USAID, has also recognized Randeepa Agrarian as a partner organisation to offer agricultural machinery under subsidised interest schemes that benefit underprivileged farmer communities. A number of local institutes have also recognised and hailed the efforts of the company for their commitment towards creating economic value within the Sri Lankan agricultural sector through mechanisation, the release said.
