In an effort to rebuild confidence among the diaspora and foreign investors and reassure the world that Sri Lanka is a safe place to invest, the Research Intelligence Unit (RIU) will be hosting its next prestigious RIU Investor Forum on June 27 in London in association with the Sri Lankan High Commission in London.

Multiple sectors such as Real Estate, Fashion, Apparel and many others are joining hands to promote Sri Lanka as a safe investment option, the company said in a media release.

RIU CEO, Roshan Madawela said: “Right now, more than ever, Sri Lanka needs to prove its resilience and bounce back stronger. We should not forget the fact that Sri Lanka has been a very peaceful country for the past 10 years and we should not feel shattered by just one terror attack in 3650 days. Countries that have encountered terror attacks more often than Sri Lanka are proven to have risen stronger and RIU’s Investor Forum in London is an effort to showcase our resilience to the world.”

The forum will be a business networking platform with the focus of expert commentators and the audience being on the current real estate and non-real estate opportunities in Sri Lanka.

Moreover, the Fashion Show ‘Shades of Sri Lanka’, organised by Melache and supported by some of the leading fashion designers, is joining RIU as a partner event which is to be held on June 30 2019 at Holiday Inn, Bloomsberry. “Given the tragic turn of events, we will also use our fashion show as a platform to raise funds to support the victims of all communities in Sri Lanka. We trust you will join hands with us to rebuild confidence in our beloved motherland and help Sri Lanka to bounce back stronger,” said Melanie Wijesinghe, the organiser of ‘Shades of Sri Lanka’.

“Sri Lanka has a large diaspora community that will continue to play a significant role in the real estate market as well as facilitate overall investment into the island. According to RIU’s own primary research, the UK is home to over 436,000 persons of Sri Lankan origin who currently have a permanent and active financial or real estate connection to their country of origin. The UK is by far the most significant diaspora market in terms of both quantity and quality. The RIU’s recent past events have been graced by hundreds of investors including real estate professionals, business leaders, fund managers, bankers, HNI professionals, doctors and lawyers, etc,” the release said.

This year, the event will provide over 350 face to face networking opportunities with the UK diaspora community. International investors from multiple disciplines, looking at Sri Lanka will also be present. As the World Cup Cricket tournament will be held in the UK during this time, there will be other surprises installed such as special guest appearances will be made by international cricket stars.

The Research Intelligence Unit (RIU) is headquartered in London with its regional office in Colombo.
