A large group of tourists from Thailand arrived last week to visit the Dalada Maligawa. It was the largest group of tourists to visit the country since the ‘Easter Sunday’ suicide bomb attacks in the country.

The group of 80 persons included five monks, seventy-five laymen and was led by a Nayaka Thera.

On arrival at the Maligawa the group was welcomed by the Diyawadana Nilame, Pradeep Nilanga Dela. The group later paid obeisance to the Sacred Tooth Relic.

The Diyawadana Nilame who welcomed the devotees later posed for photos with the group in the new shrine room.

The Nayaka Thera who led the group said he believed that, henceforth many groups would follow their example and visit Sri Lanka.

The Tourist Development Bureau co-ordinated the tour. The group said they hoped to visit a few other places of historic interest as well.
