Stafford Launches Expanded Sixth Form (Advanced Level)
View(s):Stafford International School will be introducing an expanded Sixth Form (Advanced Level) this September. The Sixth Form is the most exciting but also challenging two years of a student’s educational life – a time to specialize, prepare for further education and consider career choices. It is vital that students in these crucial years make the right choice of qualifications and subjects that will cater to their specific needs and aspirations. Stafford’s aim is two fold; impart an excellent academic programme while encouraging our students to flourish as well-rounded citizens who take away with them so much more than good results. We look forward to our students leaving the Sixth Form with the personal and intellectual skills needed to make an important contribution to the world, whatever career they choose.
When a high percentage of employers say, they require candidates to possess much-needed soft skills such as empathy, courtesy, leadership, problem-solving and communication, we expect the experience gained in the Sixth Form in our school would help our students to prepare for the outside world within a happy and stimulating environment. As well as offering excellent academic support, we actively help pupils with work experience placements, career guidance and those all-important University choices through our dedicated team of Sixth Form teachers and advisers.
A Level Subject Baskets
Choosing your A-level subjects carefully is extremely important – especially if you aspire to study at a leading university. We have thus, removed the process of streaming students into Commerce and Science and have introduced instead, a system where students choose from a wide range of subjects offering them the opportunity to study a variety of different fields with minimal restrictions. Each individual student will have a one on one session with the Academic Director who will guide them in the subject selection process based on his/her career aspirations, passion and university plans. The following subjects will be offered:
Further Mathematics, Mathematics, Physics, Biology, Chemistry, Economics, English Literature, Law, Geography, Psychology, Business Studies, Accounting, IT and Computer Science.
High Quality Teachers and Small Class Sizes
It has been proven time and again that high quality teaching leads to higher student achievement. Thus, the management at Stafford has ensured that they have some of Sri Lanka’s best teachers that are of high quality. They also promise small class sizes, with 15-20 students per class.
Personalised university preparation programme
The Advanced Level is a vital transitional phase between school and university and the rich and varied opportunities that will be offered at Stafford will help students to bridge the gap successfully. It is also vital that they plan their 2 years and select a course of study at university that suits their aspirations and ability. Thus, they have created a personalised university preparation programme that will maximize their chances of getting into their desired university. The programme will include one on one guidance in selecting the right fit program, and then guidance with the application process. The guidance and essay coaching will be done by a team, comprising of some graduates from prestigious universities such as Harvard University.
A Curriculum that fits our needs
Stafford offers the Edexcel board for the Advanced Level examinations barring Computer Science, IT and Psychology (which will be offered via the Cambridge board). Pearsons Edexcel curriculum to takes a modern approach developing 21st century skills needed for the jobs of tomorrow.
