New SDIG in charge of Southern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces
View(s):The National Police Commission (NPC) has approved the appointment of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police (SDIG) Roshan Fernando as SDIG in charge of the Southern and Sabaragamuwa Provinces with effect from May 25, 2019.
SDIG Fernando was the SDIG in charge of the Northern Province for two years prior to his latest appointment. He has served the Police Department for 37 years and is one of the longest-serving officers within the police. He joined the police in 1982, and, in 1984, was among the first batch of officers who underwent training with the newly formed Special Task Force.
He was promoted to Asst Superintendent of Police in 1994, Superintendent of Police in 2000 and Senior Superintendent of Police in 2005. He was promoted to DIG in 2013 and SDIG in 2017.
SDIG Fernando has served throughout Sri Lanka and was also in charge of the Jaffna Division in 2008 during the war and has been awarded the Northern Humanitarian Operations Medal. He has also received police commendations on seven occasions throughout his career and has also been awarded special salary increments on two occasions.
He underwent his primary and secondary education at St Mary’s College, Negombo and Royal College, Colombo respectively.
