Digital technology advances accountancy and finance professions with improving efficiency and adding value in the service of professionals through their services to their clients, according to Flona Wilkinson, Deputy President, Institute of Chartered Accountants in England and Wales, has stated in a video message.
She was to be the Chief Guest at the inauguration ceremony of the CA Sri Lanka Techno Fair 2019 held at the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Sri Lanka (CA Sri Lanka) last week, but was unable to be present and instead sent a message.
The CA Sri Lanka Techno Fair was the first ever digital accounting expo organised by CA Sri Lanka with 26 leading IT companies participating to showcase a diverse range of digital products and services available in the market for businesses and finance partners.
In her message, Ms. Wilkinson indicated that digital technology is disrupting and transforming economies and societies, especially, the finance profession at a fast phase which creates opportunities while posing fundamental challenges. Due to this scale of change, they need to work together to embrace it.
She told the members of the profession that it is a good opportunity, to take maximum advantage of the Techno Fair by visiting the kiosks and participating in the demonstration sessions which would enhance knowledge and build clarity on what the professionals need to succeed in the digital world.
At the inauguration, Jagath Perera, President, CA Sri Lanka said that what they learn yesterday may not have much value tomorrow, hence they need to learn, unlearn and relearn and as a part of this objective the institute regularly revamps the curriculum for the benefit of the students. He said that it is same with the members of the institute who are Chartered Accountants.
He said that to help their members change their outlook and enhance their knowledge the institute offers various continuous professional development programmes, and also decided to organise the Techno Fair so that the members can experience new developments in the technological world.
The fair featured a host of local and international digital products and services ranging from automation, artificial intelligence block chain, big data, cloud computing and data analysis, which were promoted via kiosk and demonstration sessions organized for the benefit of the participants.
