Strong sports background at Vidyartha OBA
View(s):St. Thomas’ Matale, Science College and BMS have been by-words for excellence in hockey. Isipathana is talked of wherever rugby is discussed. Similarly, Vidyartha, away from the spotlight, has made a name for itself in rugby, hockey and boxing.
Thus it is no surprise that at the recent Annual General Meeting of the Vidyartha OBA, almost all the posts were bagged by those who had done well in rugby and hockey, in particular.
Ranjith Weerasinghe, a captain of the Sri Lanka Schools hockey team and a talented full back at rugby, was elected unopposed as the President. Gamini Warnakulasuriya, who achieved much in rugby, boxing and athletics is the Secretary. Asoka Ekanayake, who represented Sri Lanka schools at hockey, is the Assistant Secretary. Inter alia, Anush Colonne, won a Sri Lankan Tie for rugby.
