Former Royal College player Shamal Dissanayake and Ladies’ College player Anika Seneviratne bagged the Men’s Open Singles and Women’s Open Singles titles while Royalist Tehan Wijemanne bagged triple at the Clay Court National Tennis Championship 2019, held at the Sri Lanka Tennis Association (SLTA) Courts last week.

The awards ceremony of the week-long tournament was held last Sunday at the SLTA Auditorium, where all winners were presented with their hard-earned and deserving awards.

Former Royalist Shamal Dissanayake won the Men’s Open Singles and Men’s Open Doubles, partnered with Rukmal Cooray, while Anika Seneviratne too bagged a double. While winning the Women’s Open Singles for the second year running, Anika got together with her sibling and Ladies’ College team mate Alana Seneviratne to win the Women’s Open Doubles championship.

Chathurya Nilaweera of Stafford International School won the Boy’s Under-18 Singles championship while the Girls’ Under-18 Singles title was won by Savini Jayasuriya of Bishops’ College. Tehan Wijemanne of Royal College won a triple crown, winning the Boys’ Under-16 Singles and Doubles and the Under-18 Doubles championships in style. Lisal Goonatilleke of S. Thomas’ College won the Boys’ Under-12 Singles championship.

SLTA President Iqbal Bin Issack and tennis stalwarts Mohan Munasinghe and Sria Munasinghe graced the awards ceremony as special guests.
