Rs 246m Government allocation for National School in Polonnaruwa
View(s):The Government is to allocate Rs 246 million for the construction of a Building Complex in Polonnaruwa, with Advanced Level Classrooms and Laboratories for a National School with Multinational and Trilingual Education .
A proposal by Education Minister Akila Viraj Kariyawasam, to award the contract to Central Engineering Services Pvt Ltd. was approved, upon the recommendation of a Cabinet appointed Standing Procurement Committee.
The Indian government is supporting this National school with a Rs 300 million-grant for the construction of classrooms from Grades 6-9, which construction is underway.
This school is one of the key projects prioritised in close consultation with President Maithripala Sirisena, under the “Pibidemu Polonnaruwa” (awakening Polonnaruwa) District Development programme, which was inaugurated by President Sirisena in September 2017, with Indian High Commissioner to Sri Lanka, Taranjit Singh Sandu in attendance.
