Professorial Unit at Ratnapura Teaching Hospital approved
View(s):A proposal by Minister of Health, Nutrition & Indigenous Medicine, Dr. Rajitha Senaratne, for a Professorial Unit at the Ratnapura Teaching Hospital, which was upgraded to a Teaching Hospital in 2018, has been approved. The proposed Professorial Unit, a six storied building, is estimated to cost Rs. 4,324 million, and would be beneficial for the newly opened Medical faculty of the Sabaragamuwa University.
Sabaragamuwa University’s Faculty of Medicine is the newest arrival to the chain of Medical Faculties in Sri Lanka.
The Faculty of Medicine, established in Ratnapura and accommodating 75 students per intake, will conduct the 1st year of the Degree programme at the Batuhena Faculty premises.
The new Faculty building and the Professorial Unit are being constructed on the land adjacent to the Ratnapura Provincial General Hospital, and would serve as the Teaching Hospital for the Faculty of Medicine, with Clinical training facilities for the undergraduates.
