Shammu, Ashen steer SL Emerging to victory
View(s):Two fighting half centuries from Shammu Ashan and Ashen Bandara helped the Sri Lanka Emerging Team pull off a hard fought four-wicket victory over South Africa Emerging Team in their opening tour match played at Pretoria yesterday.
The visitors were reeling at 43 for five in the 10th over after they were set a modest victory target of 185 runs in 50 overs.
However, all-rounder Bandara joined Ashan and the pair repaired the early damage with a splendid sixth-wicket century partnership from 138 deliveries.
The former hit a superb 60 with one six and eight boundaries while the latter remained unbeaten on 76 from 78 balls having struck a dozen of boundaries.
Earlier, Asitha Fernando and Amila Aponso captured three wickets each to dismiss the home side for 185 runs after Sri Lanka Emerging Team had won the toss and elected to field.
