Govt appoints Sports Educators defying union opposition- CTU
View(s):The Ceylon Teachers’ Union (CTU), last week, said the Government has disregarded the Teacher unions’ opposition to the recruitment of schools Sports Educators.
CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said that, despite protests by Teachers and Education unions, against the 3,888 Sports Educators already appointed, the Ministry of Education (MoE) last week distributed Letters of Appointment to 510 more Sports Educators.
The CTU said the Government action to recruit under qualified persons into the Teaching profession is in violation of the Teachers Service Minute.
Mr Stalin said that, generally, Teacher appointments are given to Degree holders and Advanced Level qualified persons, who are trained at the Teacher Training Colleges and the National College of Education.
The Government, he said, has politicised the entire Education system, with the latest appointments made for the henchmen of Parliamentarians of the ruling party.
Meanwhile, the MoE, in a press release, said the recruitment were made for the uplift of Sports in National schools.
