Pay increase for public servants becomes effective
View(s):The Government has allocated Rs. 40 billion for the purpose of salary increments and other allowances for public servants as proposed in this year’s budget, which came into effect from July 1, the Treasury announced.
Accordingly, all public servants including security forces personnel will receive an additional monthly allowance of Rs2,500, while the anomalies of some 500,000 pensioners will be addressed. The allowance for differently-abled persons will be increased along with the number of recipients of the kidney patients’ allowance.
Under the public servants’ salary increment, 1.1 million public servants are entitled to receive an interim allowance of Rs2,500, while the cost of living allowance of Rs7,800 currently being paid to public servants would remain unchanged.
The pensions of over 500,000 public servants who retired before December 31, 2015 will be increased by a minimum sum of Rs2,800 and a maximum of Rs20,000.
The proposal to increase the monthly allowance of differently-abled persons to Rs5,000 from Rs3,000 also became effective from this month. In addition to the 32,000 differently-abled persons who are already entitled to receive this allowance, together with another 40,000 on the waiting list, a total of 72,000 differently-abled persons will be entitled to receive this monthly allowance.
The government has already been paying a monthly allowance of Rs5,000 each to 21,000 chronically ill kidney patients; another 5,000 patients have been included into this allowance scheme.
