All seeded players reach quarter-finals
All seeded players in the Women’s Singles won their respective first-round matches convincingly on the opening day of the 104th Colombo Tennis Championships which commenced at the SLTA Courts in Green Path yesterday.
Even then, the bottom seed Janali Manamperi had a tough opening set against the unfancied Alana Seneviratne before cruising to a 6-3, 6-0 victory in the end. The third seed Rukshika Wijesooriya also survived few anxious moments in the second set before overcoming the unfancied Senuri Alexander 6-0, 6-3.
Meanwhile, the fourth seed Anjalika Kurera enjoyed a rousing 6-0, 6-0 victory over Tuvini de Alwis in another first-round encounter. The top seed Anika Seneviratne of course has received a bye in the first-round and will meet Tania Doloswala in one of the quarter-finals.
Among the unseeded players Oneli Perera pulled off a hard fought 7-5, 6-2 win over Sethmi Sumanaweera while Ochithya Fernando had the better of Vonara de Alwis 6-3, 7-5.
