‘Flight and Destiny’ features realities in foreign lands
German film ‘In between Worlds’ film produced, written and directed by Feo Aladag, a story of a friendship between a German soldier and his young Afghan interpreter, will be screened at Friday’s film screening at Goethe Hall at 7 pm on July 19.
Organised by the Goethe Institute, the film is part of the series titled “Flight and Destiny” under which five films that approach the subject of flight in different ways are featured.
Jesper, a soldier in the German armed forces, signs up for duty again in crisis-ridden Afghanistan. Together with his unit, he is given the assignment of protecting an outpost in a small village from the growing influence of the Taliban. The young Afghan Tarik is assigned to help them as an interpreter. Jesper repeatedly feels torn between his conscience and the orders of his superiors. Both men are confronted with the adversities between their diverging cultures, their set of values as well as the risk of the international engagement in the Hindukush.
The film stars the German actors Ronald Zehrfeld, Burghart Klaussner, Felix Kramer, Pit Bukowski and the Afghan actors Mohsin Ahmady, Saida Barmaki and Abdul Salam Yusoufzai.
Based on the stories of individuals the films in the “Flight and Destiny” series deal with themes such as homelessness, fear, destruction, loss but also cohesion, reconciliation and reunion.
The film series is scheduled to be screened every Friday from July 5 to August 2 at the Goethe Hall.
