School Inpectors a ploy to re-employ retired people into the system- CTU
View(s):The Ceylon Teachers Union (CTU) last week said that the Ministry of Education (MoE) attempt to introduce School Inpectorates (SI) to the 10,175 schools islandwide, is a ploy to re-employ retired people into the system.
CTU General Secretary Joseph Stalin said it is totally against the government re-employing retired persons from the SLEAS Principal and Teacher Service, as it will only glut the system, while there are competent persons who could be employed from the SLEAS Teacher and Principal Services.
Mr Stalin said the Government’s plan to introduce this system to the Provincial schools is also an infringement on the responsibilities of the schools that come under the PCs, as the line ministry has no authority to run the Provincial schools.
Meanwhile, he said that the MoE should focus on appointing Principals to the 320 National schools which are running sans Principals since 2015. Around 373 National schools comes under MoE purview.
The MoE intends to appoint an independent body- School Inspectorate with 9 Additional Commissioners under a Commissioner General, who will send Inspectors to schools to monitor and analyze teachers’ performance in the classroom.
