Over 100 teams expected for 2019 Mercantile Volleyball Championships
The 2019 Mercantile Volleyball Championships (MVC) premier round, organised by the Mercantile Volleyball Association will be held on September 7-8, at the National Youth Services Centre (NYSC), Maharagama, with the finals on November 2-3, at the same venue.
Applications are now open and will close on August 15. The tournament will be conducted under 3 categories. They are Super League for Men and Women, Championship for Men and Women and Division ‘A’ for Men and Women.
Following its revival in 2012, which saw the participation of 50 teams, the MVC celebrates its 8th year with over 100 teams in both the Men and Women’s categories.
This year’s championship is being organised by a spirited team led by Sri Lanka Telecom (SLT) General Manager Lakmal Jayasinghe.
Total prize money exceeding Rs 1 million is on offer. Best Players in Men and Women categories will receive a motorcycle each, in addition there will be trophies for Winners, Runners-up and the Best Player – Men and Women under the categories of Best Setter, Best Attacker and Best Player.
There will also be other events such as the selection of the Lucky Captain and the Best Coach etc, during the preliminary rounds as well as the finals, .
