All Female Sri Lankan delegation visits Germany
View(s):Recently an all female delegation from Sri lanka participated in the Guest Programme of the Federal Republic of Germany. The five-day visit focused on women’s rights, reconciliation, and the culture of remembrance. The high ranking Sri Lankan delegation led by Justice Minister Thalatha Athukorale included Colombo’s Mayor Rosy Senanayake, Human Rights Commission Chairperson Dr Deepika Udagama, Commissioner Ambika Satkunanathan, Office of Missing Persons Commissioner Dr. Nimalka Fernando, Centre for Equality and Justice Executive Director Shyamala Gomez, human rights activist Shreen Saroor from Mannar Women’s Development Federation (MWDF) and Sunday Observer Editor Dharisha Bastians.
The delegation met Thomas Oppermann, Vice President of the German Parliament (Bundestag), (see photo) and several female MPs from different political parties. The discussions with the MPs focused on ways to increase the female representation in elected bodies.
