ANC Education known for producing ‘career-ready’ graduates for over 17 years have established close ties with industries and its professionals over the years to fulfil the challenging role of preparing graduates for the changing workplace.

‘Going beyond the classroom’ is an approach to fulfil this goal which incorporates industry expert’s involvement to bring real-world work situations faced by marketers, business leaders, IT professionals, accountants and top management into the classroom. Students visited ODEL, DIMO, Arpico, People’s Leasing& Finance PLC and Colombo Stock Exchange as well as had industry experts’ conduct workshops at ANC classrooms.

ODEL and Arpico was a great place where our students in the Strategic Management & Consumer Behavior class went for a market survey visit to understand consumer perceptions, buyer behavior, purchasing trends in the retail department stores. Students visited the Colombo Stock Exchange to gain exposure into the equity marketing in Sri Lanka as part of the Financial Management course. Students also visited People’s Leasing, one of Sri Lanka’s largest leasing companies and got the opportunity to have a discussion with the Chairman himself. The tremendous insights on making critical decisions at the top and how to properly develop a ‘Strategic Plan’ was further elaborated by the Deputy General Managers of Human Resources, Marketing and Risk Audit at People’s Leasing.

Five-star hotel site visit for Hospitality Management students gave them a new perspective about the subject of ‘sanitation’ and how the standards and principals of hygiene on food & beverage preparation have evolved over time. They visited the five-star hotel kitchen, talked with the chefs and training staff and learnt what ‘ambiance creation’ is all about. They gained a 360-degree experience on how to delight the customer by offering an exclusive culinary experience.

In addition, experienced leaders from the industry visited ANC to conduct interactive workshops during classroom sessions to give a first-hand glimpse on how to apply the concepts and theories that students learnt in class.

IkramMohideen, Branding & Strategic Planning Manager of Leo Burnett explained how they conducted market research and developed questionnaires for surveys before introducing a new product into the market, which was the final project given to students for the Principles of Marketing course.  Environmental Sustainability Management workshop was conducted by Ms. N.M Lakmini Radhika the Assistant Director of the Central Environmental Authority for the course on Environmental Science which gave valuable insights and learnings into the approaches and steps to creating a more sustainable Sri Lanka.

The participation of our students was really valuable says Mr. Chathura Liyanage Head of Academic Programs for Northwood University U.S.A, “when students engage with industry leaders it makes a significant impact on their personal and professional growth as well as enhancing their learning process and understanding to be able to translate theories and apply them in the real-workplace”.
