Walala A. Ratnayake Central continue dominance
Reigning champions, Walala A Rathnayaka Central from the Wattegama Education Zone, won both Boys and Girls Senior Athletic Championship titles at the Central Province Inter-Education Zone Track and Field Meet 2019, concluded at Bogambara Stadium in Kandy.
Continuing their dominance in athletics Walala Central lads, with a tally of 268 points, clinched the Boys championship for the 21st occasion, while the Walala Central lasses finished on top with 400 points to take away the Girls Senior Championship trophy for the 27th consecutive year.
Kaveesha Senanayaka of Dharmaraja College Kandy, who returned best timing of 49.4 seconds in boys Under-20 400m event, was adjudged as the Best Male Athlete. The winner in the Under-18 Girls 400m Hurdles event, Ameesha Hettiarachchi of Viharamahadevi Balika Vidyalaya, Kandy, who clocked 1 minute and 2.04 seconds, was named the best Female Athlete of the meet.
Over 2000 boys and girls representing 15 Education Zones in the districts of Matale, Kandy and Nuwara Eliya participated in the four-day meet conducted by Central Province Education Department. - LDC
