Thanji, Thaha record third successive win
The second day’s proceedings of the 67th National Snooker Championship being played at the AAC and The Cue Club billiards tables saw two cueists T. Thanji of BRC and S.M. Thaha of MICH ending their round robin campaign on an unbeaten note when the duo recorded their third successive wins.
The duo coasted to comfortable wins with Thanji overcoming M. Sheriffdeen of Army by four frames to nil in the seven frame encounter and Thaha getting the better of former national snooker runner up and fancied player S.H.M. Aslam of Moors SC by the same winning margin.
Army cueist pulled off a major upset with a stunning four frames to two win against last year’s runner up Ryan Somaratna of Otters AC while defending champion M.F.M. Fahim of Moors SC underwent some anxious moments before brushing aside the challenge of AAC’s Anil Rohana to win by four frames to two to chalk his second successive win.
The 67th National Snooker Championship conducted by the Billiards and Snooker Association is sponsored by Sumathi Group of Companies and fought out for the U.W. Sumathipala Memorial Trophy. The championship will be continued today.
