OPA rejects Higher Education Quality Assurance Bill
View(s):The Organisation of Professional Associations (OPA) in Sri Lanka has rejected the draft Higher Education (Quality Assurance and Accreditation) Bill which was gazetted in June and is now before Parliament, and urged that it be withdrawn.
The unanimous decision was taken by the Presidents/Representatives of member associations of the OPA at a special meeting held on August 15.
“Whilst acknowledging the fact that there is a need for Quality Assurance and Accreditation in Higher Education sector, the bill itself is flawed and would lead to politicising of authority created to oversee this Quality Assurance and Accreditation.
The OPA strongly feels that the bill should be withdrawn and views of professionals be obtained and a totally independent body be set through legislation to effect changes whilst looking at all sectors of educations via primary, secondary and tertiary,” the OPA said in a media statement.
