“Research for Impact” organized by the Sri Lankan Academy of Young Scientists (SLAYS)in October
View(s):SLAYS Conference 2019 titled “Research for Impact” organized by the Sri Lankan Academy of Young Scientists (SLAYS) will be held in October, 2019 in Colombo. Profound international and national scientists will be sharing their experiences in this forum with the local young scientists.
The target audience for the conference is early/mid-career scientists from academia and industry and postgraduate research students. This will be a great opportunity for the Sri Lankan scientists to collaborate among themselves and network with international experts. Further, the conference will provide a platform for our young scientists to showcase their research work to the public and to the rest of the scientific world.
One major highlight of the conference is the “3 minute research presentation competition-3MT®” of the MPhil/PhD students, which is happening for the third time in Sri Lanka.
This event is conducted under the guidance of the University of Queensland, Australia, the innovator and the developer of the 3MT®. In 2017 and 2018, this competition was successfully conducted by SLAYS and it drew a lot of attention from the early and mid-career scientists from a range of disciplines. This year we are planning to conduct the event on an even larger scale.
The preliminary rounds of the 3MT competition will be on the 17th and 18th of September, 2019 at the National Science Foundation. The judges who are renowned Sri Lankan scientists from different fields will be selecting 10 best presentations for the final round. The grand finale will be in October 2019, in Colombo, on the same day of the annual conference. The champion will be awarded an attractive cash prize of 1000 US dollars.
