Aretha Franklin remembered
August 16th marked two years since the Queen of Soul, Aretha Franklin died of a rare form of pancreatic cancer. The estate controlling the late singer’s assets has agreed to start a research fund called the Aretha Franklin Fund for Neuroendocrine Cancer Research. The family of the singer have also asked fans and friends to make contributions to fund.
Cheryl’s waxwork removed from display at Madame Tussauds
The wax work of the singer Cheryl has been removed from public display at Madame Tussauds London and has been archived.
The management felt the display was not the best representation of what visitors want to see. Other displays also face the same fate. The former Girls Aloud singer and one time X-Factor judge is currently a participant on the TV show The Greatest Dancer. Cheryl’s waxwork went on display in 2010.
Ed Sheeran’s ‘Beautiful People’ hangs on at No2 for fourth consecutive week
Ed Sheeran’s former chart topping song ‘Beautiful People’ has been at the No: 2 spot on the UK singles chart for four consecutive weeks. Seven weeks ago the pop/R&B track featuring Khalid debuted on the UK singles chart at No: 3 and was in that position for two weeks before toppling Shawn Mendes & Camila Cabello’s ‘Senorita’. Having held the crown for a solitary week, the Latin hit ‘Senorita’ reclaimed the No: 1 and ever since Sheeran and Khalid’s song ‘Beautiful People’ has been at the runner up position. ‘Beautiful People’ is taken from Sheeran’s current album ‘No.6 Collaborations Project’.
Nicki Minaj changes Twitter handle
Nicki Minaj has changed her Twitter account name from Ms. Minaj to Mrs. Petty on 16th August as plans to marry music executive Kenneth Petty shortly.
Stormzy to fund two student at University of Cambridge
The rap and grime artist Stormzy is to fund two more students from the minority Afro-Caribbean community at the University of Cambridge. Last year Stormzy set up a scholarship fund to four years of undergrad studies at the prestigious Oxford and Cambridge Universities.
Sam Smith hit makes it to UK top 10 singles chart
Sam Smith’s current single ‘How Do You Sleep’ has crossed over to the UK top 10 singles chart four weeks after release. The song moved from 12 to No: 7. The pop dance track is a follow up to ‘Dance With A Stranger’ which peaked at No: 3 early this year. ‘How Do You Sleep’ is Smith’s 10th UK top 10 where he is lead artist.
