CINEC Campus holds 2019 Convocation for 450 Graduands

The annual graduation ceremony of CINEC Campus was held on a grand scale at the Main Conference Hall of BMICH on the 21st of August 2019 with a participation of over 1700.

A record number of 450 graduands received their Postgraduate & Undergraduate Degrees, Advanced Diplomas & Diplomas respectively in the fields of Maritime Science, Maritime Engineering, Marine Electrical Engineering, Engineering & Technology, IT, Managements & Social Sciences, Logistics & Transport and English Language courses conducted at the CINEC Campus in Malabe and the Metro Campus in Nugegoda.

The scale and the diversity of the spectrum of much desired, quality higher education that had been accomplished by CINEC over last 29 years earned high praise and admiration of all distinguished invitees, parents, graduands and well-wishers alike.

In accomplishing this noble service to the nation, CINEC has partnered with prestigious and recognised institutions Ministry of Port & Shipping, Ministry of Higher Education, University of Wolverhampton UK, Dalian Maritime University China, University of Salford UK, University of Solent UK, Pearson Qualification International UK, Chartered Institute of Logistics & Transport UK, in conducting their training course curriculum employing highly qualified and experienced academic staff from Sri Lanka.

This unpreceded achievement is attributed to the vision of CINEC and its leadership to provide the best knowledge, professionalism and competence to its students in laying a solid foundation to their chosen field.

Symbolising and recognising this strong and valuable partnership, Vice President – Dalian Maritime University – Prof. Zhao Youtao, Pro Vice Chancellor – International – University of Wolverhampton – Mr. Tim Steele, Pro Vice Chancellor – University of Salford – Dr. Sam Grogan, Regional Director Asia, Pearson Qualification International – Ms. Premila Paulraj, Chairperson CILT Sri Lanka – Ms. Gayani De Alwis, were present to award their respective qualifications.

Admiral S. S. Ranasinghe – Secretary to the Ministry of Ports & Shipping, Prof. Veranja Karunaratne – Vice Chancellor SLINTEC Academy, Director General, Merchant Shipping – Mr. Ajith Seneviratne, Ms. Chandima Janaki – Director, Ministry of Higher education Non State Higher Education Division, Engineer Neil Abeysekera – Chief Executive Officer/Executive Secretary at Institution of Engineers Dr. T. A. Piyasiri – Vice Chairman National Education Commission, Mr. Kishu Gomes – Chairman of the Sri Lanka Tourism Promotion Bureau were amongst the distinguished participants to recognise CINEC. Senior management of the Ceyline Group were also among them.

The foreign delegations of University of Wolverhampton UK, Dalian Maritime University China and University of Salford UK, visited both CINEC Campus in Malabe and Nugegoda and was engaged in detailed discussions in further strengthening and expanding the partnership to meet the future challenges.

They were impressed by the commitment of the management of CINEC to invest on quality state of art infrastructure facilities and to employ qualified and experienced human resources.

The CINEC research center partnered by globally recognised Orange Electronics and MAS Holdings and Brandix – CINEC Centre for Excellence training partnership were hailed as a giant step in providing opportunity to its students.

Capt. Ajith Peiris who has given visionary leadership to CINEC since its inception welcoming the invitees hailed both academic and support staff of CINEC in molding and guiding the graduands to reach their goals. He also thanked the parents with gratitude for the confidence placed on CINEC.

He did not fail to pay tribute to all those who have played a part in the 29 years of CINEC’s long journey. He emphasised to the students to make use of the opportunities provided at CINEC to derive best benefits of both academic and soft skills to become leaders to the future, with commitment.

Voicing similar sentiments, the Chancellor of CINEC, Prof. P.K. Mukherjee affirmed that since its inception, CINEC has positioned itself as the leading national institution in Sri Lanka for the delivery of high-level maritime education.

He was confident that CINEC will continue to exemplify the tenets of higher education in a concentrated way with affiliations with other internationally reputed institutions in the industry.

Prasanna Sedrick, Associate Dean Faculty of Engineering & Technology/ Head of CINEC Metro Campus – Mr. Chandima De Silva, Registrar – Mr. Duminda Gunasekara, Head of the Department of Marine Electrical Engineering – Mr. Ranjith Goonawardena, Head of the Department of Education and Languages – Mr.  Lasantha Basnayaka and all other staff members.
