Rs 3,000m for National College of Education of Technology by 2022
View(s):A National College of Education of Technology (NCET) is to be constructed at a cost of Rs 3,000 million, to provide Trained Teachers for schools.
The foundation stone for the College, to be ready by 2022, was due to be laid by Prime Minister Ranil Wickremesinghe in Kuliyapitiya yesterday.
The College is being set up with the assistance of the South Korean government, with the support of the Korean University Dong-Eui.
The objective is to provide teachers with a Degree in Technology, on completing a 4-year course, so that, to teach the newly introduced stream of Technology studies in schools.
Initially, the plan is to enlist 200 students, while 100 more will be taken for in-service training in subjects such as Biology, Engineering and Science streams under the programme.
A 15-acre plot has been allocated for the College, which can accommodate 1,000 students at a time. Hostel facilities, Sports facilities, Smart Classrooms, Practical Training facilities, Labs and Library facilities will be available for the students.
The South Korean government is providing Rs 2,500 million, while the Sri Lanka Government will provide the balance Rs 500 million for the project.
