Rajakaruna’s journey with the lens over the years
View(s):‘Another world unveiled’, veteran photographer Henry Rajakaruna’s eighth solo exhibition will be held from September 7-9 at the JDA Perera Gallery.
The exhibition will showcase three separate genres of Rajakaruna’s expert photography-Portraits of Humanity which includes street photography, Photo Stories and Essays as well as the Art of Blur.
Rajakaruna’s aim is to showcase how his own photographic style has evolved since his first exhibition two decades ago, bringing in a more global context to the moments he has captured. His hope is that visitors to the exhibition will have an opportunity to savour artistic moments from different parts of the world, allowing them to transcend cultures to appreciate moments captured through his lens over the years.
In his long career, Rajakaruna has received many honours and awards – the Chayarupa abhimani – 2018 – a lifetime felicitation award presented by the State for service rendered to the nation in the upliftment of photography, the Suwadapadma gold award – 2016, and the Kalabushana Award – 2013, in appreciation of excellent service rendered to the development of photography in Sri Lanka awarded by the Department of Cultural Affairs (Ministry of Culture and the Arts). In September 2012, he was also felicitated by the Photographic Federation of Sri Lanka. His work has also been featured in international photography magazines.
The exhibition will be open on September 7 from 1.30 p.m. to 7 p.m. and on the 8th and 9th from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m.
