Students should give priority to their respective religious and cultural values during their school careers, urged Western Province (WP) Governor, A.J.M. Muzammil.

The Governor, who was the Chief Guest, was speaking to students, teachers parents and well-wishers, at a ceremony on Thursday, to hand over a 3-storeyed building at Dharmapala Vidyalaya in Kottawa North, built at a cost of Rs 90 million.

The Governor pointed out that Sri Lanka’s Literacy rate is high in Asia and the students are performing well in various disciplines in the country. “We are proud that the high standard of Education in the country is due to the free Education provided by the State,” the Governor said, pointing out that, therefore, students should know their duties and responsibilities of learning in the Educational institutions offered by the Government.

He said that, as much as students give priority to Education, they should also be mindful of their respective religious education. “Education is more useful to society, provided there are religious values,” the Governor added.

WP Council Chief Secretary Pradeep Yasaratne and its former Chief Minister and Central Environment Authority Chairman Isuru Devapriya also graced the occasion.
