Western Province sweep the board
Western Province (WP) swept the board at the 45th National Sports Festival (NSF) 2019 Carrom Championship when they won Gold in all 6 events worked off at the championship.
The 6 events worked off were Men’s and Women’s Singles, Men’s and Women’s Doubles and Men’s and Women’s Team events. Two players who stole the limelight were WP’s former World Champion, Nishantha Fernando and National Slicer Joseph Roshita, who were adjudged Best Men’s and Best Women’s Slicers for their outstanding performances throughout the tournament.
The Sports Development Department of the Ministry of Sports organized the 45th NSF 2019, from September 6-8 at the Badulla Public Library premises. Over 90 players from all 9 Provinces took part in the competition.
Two ‘White’ slams performed by WP’s Nishantha Fernando and Anas Ahamed of Uva Province were awarded Rs 10,000 each.
